Hi! My name is....

Hey!! My name is Katie aka The Southern Comfort Doula. I am married to my best friend, mother of one tiny human (4 yrs old) and two amazing, almost completely grown (17 and 19), bonus kids. We have 3 pups; an English Bulldog I adopted while stationed in Korea 7 yrs ago, Miss Bailey Ann Sassy Pants, a 2 yr old yellow Lab, BeaTrix (Bea for short) and a 4 month old German Wirehaired Pointer, Axl. The house is FULL!!!! And never clean might I add. :)

I am currently serving in the Air Force and am nearing the end of my enlistment. It's been a long 18 years and I'm ready to close this chapter of my life, use the knowledge I've gained and hit the road running!! What 's my job in the AF you ask..? Bombs. I build bombs, missiles, rockets, chaff and flare, 30MM, 20MM, bullets, grenades, C4, etc... All the fun things! I've deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Abu Dabi, stationed in Korea twice, Arizona, Florida and currently am in Idaho. All were amazing to experience. Thankfully, I had my tiny human towards the end of my career and didn't have to deal with long spans away from him. I honestly don't think I would be able to endure that heartache now! As such, I'm ready to end this chapter and be more family oriented.

I attended college back home in North Carolina for business but it didn't excite me. At 20 years old, I entered the Air Force not knowing what I wanted to do when I 'grew up'. Throughout my career I looked into many different things but nothing really lit a fire under my butt. Fast forward 14 years... I was pregnant! I was a sponge to everything birth through my entire pregnancy. It was SO interesting! After having the tiny human I continued to help friends and family with any questions they had. I also became very passionate about breastfeeding. I nursed my tiny human for two years and it was a wonderful experience! And then, one day, it clicked! I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO BE WHEN I GROW UP!!!!!!! It took a long time to realize what I was meant to do with my life but I finally knew! Good things come to those who wait.

Since becoming a mom in 2016 I have been beyond passionate about everything birth. I believe with the right mindset anything is possible and with the right doula, your birth experience can be a joyous and memorable day. The entire process, to me, is one of the most beautiful experiences a woman can be a part of and I would love to be a part of that journey with you.
